About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Haul: Laura Mercier, Lancome, MAC, NARS & Mook Goodies!

    Hi Hi,

Just a little miscellaneous haul and goodies from various places. I am prolly one of the 3 or 4 people who did not buy anything from the MAC VV collection. Nothing aganist Disney nor mac, but just something about it didn't appeal to me this time.  Which is great for my wallet!

I did, however, want to get the MAC Viva Glam Gaga lipglass to match my lipstick.  And I also wanted to get a primer (not that urgent yet, but just want one for variety's sake) and also a loose powder (to replace my MUFE super matte which is all used up! Yay!)

And so here we have the Laura Mercier loose powder, which I have heard great reviews about... I have also seen several of my fave YT people using it, and well, when a chance to get this online at Nordstroms for lower prices than at True Colors I believe, I grabbed it.  * Thanks to Iris and Kas!  :)

Nordstroms also stocks Estee Lauder and other brands, at cheaper prices than sg prices.  Go check out and compare!

It is pretty good value at S$47 for 29g of powder.

Next, we trooped to the Lancome counter last night, and I got the gf to buy the Teint Miracle which I have been raving about.  She got that, and then we both also bought the Lancome La Base Pro (S$68), which is a makeup primer that promises soothing effect.  This is prolly the first time I am trying out a completely colorless base, and it feels like those silicon type, but I swatched foundation over it, and am very impressed by the results.  I hope, I hope, I hope this will work out well for me.  Will post reviews and all that jazz after I try this out.

I wanted the Viva Glam Gaga lipglass, and this, Kas helped me to get during the morning mad rush at MAC when the VV collection was let loose at Tangs.   So, thanks again!

    Love the color.... so pretty!!!

Then I got a NARS lipstick which my gf gave me, because the color is not working out for her.  It is Honolulu Honey which is a matte version, a little darker too, compared to Belle Du Jour. Again, very wearable on my skin tone.   Very beigy nude colour.

Kas and I also went to Kino bookstore, and she showed me the Fred Perry mook that comes with this pencil-roll thing, which she though I would like, and indeed, I can't resist such things, and bought it.  Also, she showed me the deal with Beauty Map, that comes with either a full-sized OPI ridge filler, or nail strengthening polish.  For $2.50 this is a pretty great deal!

That's all, and thanks for looking!

Oh by the way, I have the Laura Mercier Mineral Powder Foundation in Natural Beige. It has pretty good coverage but I must use the 'building-up' technique. On another note, I use this only when my skin is behaving, aka flawless, no hormonal blemishes or anything. Smiling
