About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Collective Haul! (Phyto Hair, L'Occitane, The Body Shop)

This is a collective haul entry which my sis and I got over the past couple of days.

First of all, it took me over an hour just to load these pictures. Seriously.  Don't know what was up with the uploader tonight.  I can load 2 episodes of Gossip Girls without any problem and I can't load tiny picture up here.  :p  Just as I was about to give up for the night, it was OK again.

So, anyway the first thing, is these Phyto 9 hair treatment cream.  I think they cost about $36 each, and this is prolly my fave hair leave in conditioner/ treatment.  You need the tiniest amount and apply to the ends of your hair (esp if you have long hair) for silky smooth hair.

My sister got them at John Little, and she also receive these cute little freebies from NUXE.  Think they are some body creams and lotions etc.

As most of you might know, THE BODY SHOP is having this $5 promotion on shower gels (with purchase of each $10+ product you can buy up to 6 bottles of shower gel for $5 each).  GREAT DEAL, as most of my family members are pretty addicted to the Satsuma Body Polish.  I should have featured it in my April faves, but totally forgot.  So we bought the Lemongrass footspray and Satsuma Body Polish (repurchase), and just hauled a bunch of the shower gels, in Satsuma, Moringa, Shea, and Olive.

Just as I was about to leave Raffles City today, I passed by L'Occitane, and saw that the Honey Lemon spray were on crazy sale (I got them for the first time at 20% only).  I wanted to check out if they were still available cos Michelle and Sara expressed some interest, and so it was a pleasant surprise to see they are still around, and even cheaper!  So I grabbed one as back-up, cos these are LE.

And then a couple of days back, my sis brought back a bunch of stuff from work.  These are brand new stuff, and I might use most of them as  random giveaways sometime soon (after the exam season).   So keep posted!

    Thanks for reading!!

gwen - I was THICK SKINNED & SHARP EYED and saw the little packets behind the counter, and seeing as I bought a load of stuff, and the girl was quite friendly and pushing for me to buy stuff, I thought it was appropriate for me to ASK her for it. Haha.. so not as if she offered to me. LOL Sticking out tongue

I think the spray smells 'truer' I have the cream sample but haven't used it, but from what I can remember, the lotion cream is not as 'strong' or honey-like. Hope this helps!

Gwen and Soph: Ok, I'm disgusting - I have the body scrub in the Honey and Lemon range - it smells pretty much like the perfume; so does the shower gel (see how I inadverdently reveal my extravagances in comments? I blame all of you for digging my mouth! LOLOLOLOLOL!)

My tube of Phyto looks the same, except that it's called Phyto 7. The top of the box in your pic is cut off, so I can't read what kind of hair it's for. Phyto 7 apparently is for dry hair. It was recommended to me by the staff at JL when I was looking for something for my dry split ends.
