About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Collective Haul: Chanel, MAC, Rescue Beauty Lounge

Ok, this is the last haul entry for tonight.  There was some hesistation in posting this entry, as I wanted to wait for a couple of stuff to arrive, but oh well, I am on a roll tonight, and so here we go!  (I also wanted to wait for some natural daylight to swatch the nail polish, but that has to wait til over the weekend -- I seem to be waking up super early and getting out of the house!)  These are some products which friends have helped me purchase, and also from online sprees.

First, we have a travel exclusive Chanel quad.  Not sure the name, but it is a neutral, and all the colors are sprayed with the chanel logo.  And my friend helped me to get it at staff discount price.  Woots!   Sad to say I haven't swatched them yet, and I am pretty sure the gold overspray will all be gone after a few uses.

And next, are some MAC items from Michelle's spree.  I got only 3 pearl glide liners, and I paid S$50+ which is a good deal, as they will retail for $70+ at local mac counters.   You must have seen tons of swatch images of these, so I shan't go into color details but what I like about these, they are pretty smudge proof after they dry and set.  I already  have Blackline from previous collection, and Black Swan looks just like Black Russian -- another fave of mine.

And lastly, nail polishes from Priscilla (teaplayground) who bought the RBL polishes during their 50% off promotion.  I gave her a long list of colors, so she can choose any one of them during the crazy sale... many of the colors were OOS.. and these are what I end up with:

I was twittering that night I got these polishes, that I have met one of the most  most  most gorgeous shade, and it's Under the Stars. Amazing to look at in the bottle.  It applies a little gritty though, even after topcoat.

Needless to say, my picture does not do it justice.

The other colors I got -- if you are familiar with RBL nail polishes, you will have seen them before:

apparently, I think I need more grey polishes. LOL -- this is one of my alternate colors, in case the rest are OOS...

    RBL Stormy

    RBL Frugalista

    RBL No More War

    mustard + camou + army

and lastly, jumping on the OPI Burlesque wagon, I got Bring on the Bling, for $10 during Priscilla's blog sale.

It is so saturated with bling and glitter, I guess I can't resist after all.

That's all, and thanks for looking!

@ rusty - yea, sian of little line swatches! Shocked

wow, love the pearlglides eyeliner, it's so tempting! & i have to agree with you, when i open the boxes to check each and every polishes (in case there might be any mix up during the sale) and i saw under the stars, i was like, "shit, i should have ordered this one as well" and i know you're going to love it.

icefrost: haha, i decided not to get any lllamasqua (sp?) polishes cos pretty as they are, colors don't seem exceptionally unique or right up my alley. comtemplating ordering some spa ritual or BB couture polishes in the near future (sophia! you got to check out these two brands of nail polishes if you haven't already done so, i think you might end up with a list of colors to get!)

    11/24/10

@ priscilla - wah, very bad, enabling me... hehehe... are you still getting the deborah lipmann polishes?? I think i am sian of OPI and china glaze, need some new blood... lol havent heard of the two brands you mentioned, and I am almost afraid to google for images and swatches now.... and I love these colored black liners.. so versatile to use!

haha, i'm also really broke now Sad i want to get deborah lipmann's polishes but i have no idea going about to ordering it cos i dont like to deal w complicated shipping and all. so i'll put that aside. haha, i know right, cos after awhile, you are always getting back the same usual colors. i really really want to get BB couture, they have very nice, neutral, earthy brown shades but they also do really nice jelly looking polishes but at $9 usd each w/o shipping, they are a tad too ex for most people. i bet you will love spa ritual and nubar too, but likewise, they are on the higher end range, not as ex as rescue beauty (normal priced) or deborah but not as cheap as china glaze or OPI.

oh btw, did you know about OPI's collaboration w katy perry yet? love the black shatter polish, maybe i'll do up a post later Smiling coming up next year, shall start tempting people!! haha.

yeah i really like them but they smudge on me, i tried my friend's one. maybe i should pat on some UD primer potion before applying it. heh.

The heart swatches are so cute, and I got Stormy and No More War too. Hesitating on swatching No More War just because the color itself seems intimidating. Lol.
