About Me

My name is Sophia, and I am in my early 30s. I am from Singapore and I am the sole writer of this blog.

About this Blog

I started this blog in 2006, I like to use a wide range of brands though I seem to have a growing preference for higher-end brands in recent years. I also like to share interesting things I have come across about makeup and beauty.

Currently The Makeup Blogette receives 39,000 unique views monthly or 2,238,932 views and counting.

My Makeup Style

I like classic looks (neutral tones on eyes, anything goes for lips & cheeks), though occasionally I try out dramatic/ statement looks.  I believe that a flawless base is the key to achieving great makeup looks.  I also believe that if you don't have great skin to start with, fake it with a good foundation routine, and even greater skincare.  I am currently loving Clarins & Lancome skincare products, and Vichy NormaDerm for tackling with breakouts.

What Cameras do I use?

Most of the pictures you see in post 2010 entries are taken with my Canon G-11.  Previously I was using Canon Ixus 80.  I do post some pictures which are taken with my iphone4 which I will state in that particular entry.  I have stopped watermarking my pictures as of 2011, because I think watermarks are ugly in general, and does not prevent people from stealing my pictures if they wish to.  I just take it as a compliment that my pictures are even worth stealing in the first place. I might look into getting a Canon EOS next year, not just for blogging purposes, but I also like photography in general.

My Favourite Makeup Brand(s)

It is hard to name just one, but I like NARS, Chanel, Illamasqua and the ocasional Guerlain, Dior & Urban Decay item.  I own quite a stash of MAC items, but recently I have stopped catching up with their collections, and I much prefer to splurge on a few really outstanding items.

Where to find me

I have no official Facebook fan page, and currently have no intention to start one at all.  The Makeup Blogette remains my personal hobby and property, so as such, I don't believe in having a Facebook fanpage for it.

Anna Sui's Rockin' Wonderland Christmas Collection

    Hi hi,

this week, I had the chance to check out some items from Anna Sui's Christmas collection. Inspired by Anna Sui's fantasical wonderland, this collection is festive with shimmery and jewel toned makeup. The star motif also features heavily in this collection, further adding to the rock and rock, yet whimsical vibe. I shall show you some of the products in this entry, and follow up with a LOTD entry featuring these colors.

Personally, I feel these products also make great Christmas presents for your friends, as you can find suitable presents regardless of whether they are into makeup or not.

Take for example, this star shaped mirror (S$47) which can also double up as a bag charm, is too cute for words.  It kind of reminds me of a sheriff's badge, and makes touching up or checking out your reflection a tad more fun!

The beauty box (S$35) a sturdy plastic container which comes with a lid.  The intricate designs on the box is elegant and so feminine. I can imagine this box sitting nicely on my bedside table.  It is also quite a decent size, and you can use it for a variety of purposes.

Next, this collection consists of 5 nail colors (S$24 each) all shimmery and glittery, and these are 2 of the shades available.

    109 Navy Blue

    505 Sparkle Gold

Navy Blue has a much more purple tone which is not showing up in my pictures, and it contains sparkly ultra marine glitter bits.

And Sparkle Gold is a very warm toned shimmery color.

    swatches on my sister's nails

And next, is one of two makeup kits (S$84 each), each consisting of one Gel Eye Color, Lip Gloss, Cheek Color in a pouch.  This set here is simply number 02.   If you want to see how 01 looks like, do check out Iris' blog - Rouge Deluxe - here.

Danger Warning: I think I might develop a new lemming for these blushes, the packaging, and soft texture is totally suckering me in, making me feel like I need to start a whole collection of them.  *bad bad bad*

The pouch itself is very pretty, with the star motif all over, even the zipper.  I think this is really a worthwhile set for the price.  You get 3 makeup items, and a good sized pouch.

A closer look at each of the items, all in complimenting colors.

    some quick swatches.

    from L to R

    Cheek Color Stardom Orange

A orangey peachy blush, with gold shimmers - I really like the texture and payoff.

    Lip Gloss Stardom Orange

It looks orangey in the tube with multi-color shimmers, but swatches almost transparent.  Great as a topcoat over your lip color.

    Gel Eye Color Stardom Gold

At first I thought this is a lip gloss, being nudey and golden looking.  It feels non sticky on my hand, after it sets on my hand, stays put, and the multi-color shimmer bits did not go everywhere.  I would try this out on my eyelids without any eye shadow over, and see how it lasts through the day.

And lastly, a close up look at the star motif on the makeup pouch.

The Rockin' Wonderland collection also consists of several other products, including:

    Eye Color Crayon S$35 each

    Necklace Rouge S$75 each

    Lip Color Collection IV S$65

    Eye Color Collection IV S$65

That's all, and I hope this has been helpful if you are checking out Anna Sui's Christmas collection, looking for some great beauty finds for your best friend, girl friends, this festive season!

    Stay tuned for my LOTD!

    Thanks for reading.

ps Anna Sui products were given to me for consideration.  All opinions here are my own honest ones.

I like their older blush, maybe similar texture? Had a few & actually finished using them(OK till only the circumference left so I dumped them).

Love that orangle blush. I am loving all orange blush now.
