Benefit @ Sephora ION... and My Crazy One Item Haul

By retail_therapy · November 5, 2009 · 15 Comments · 156 Views

My colleague asked me to come along to the 'opening' of Benefit cosmetics at Sephora ION this afternoon... and so we decked out in our pink t-shirts and checked it out  (it was a pink themed 'party' I think).

We registered, and got ourselves a little goody bag and a box of Kleenex tissues with Aloe & E.  Fancy tissues, girls ~  There wasn't much people at the event, and mainly people just wanted to register and get the little goody bag.  There was a brow wax demo, which I could barely see, because the girl doing the demo was standing BEHIND the counter, and her voice is muffled by the portable mike thingy.  Then there was a makeup demo.  Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with both demos.  My colleague and I wandered off, and she bought a bunch of Benefit products (eye liner, face primer, lip gloss, etc), MAC lip pencil, and Sephora brow pencil and sharpener.  We had fun at the Benefit counter though, cos the MA serving us was very warm and friendly.

And since the Benefit demo event isn't super exciting, I got distracted by the following:

The new Dolce & Gabanna perfumes!!!! I am so lemming No3.  It is a super 'in your face' obnoxious fruit scent.  And No 10 is quite nice too.  Then I also saw OPI nail polishes, but at SGD$23.50 a pop, who wants to buy them off the shelves here??  If they have the OPI for Sephora (hello, Metro Chic? Dark Room?) then I might go crazy hauling.

So, what's in the Benefit goody bag, and what did I buy?

3 Benefit samples: 2.5ml Benetint, "Do it Daily spf10 moisturing lotion", "firmology" toning and soothing serum for face and neck.

I am actually very curious to try out the Benetint.  I think it costs $60++ for the full sized bottle--- very "ouch" on the wallet for a lip stain.

And I FINALLY caved in and bought myself the Givenchy Phenomen' Eyes mascara.  I have been dragging this decision for MONTHS.  Almost a year.  Why?  Because I am not even a mascara user.  I wear falsies if I want lashes. But when I apply this mascara to my false lashes, the results are amazing and I get complimented by random strangers. More importantly, I kind of like the ball-shaped applicator.  And it grabs my lower lashes and lengthens and thickens them like nothing else.  So.... I had to get it...maybe a crazy moment to cheer myself up or something.  It retails for $46.   Those using this mascara, what are your thoughts?

And one more matter before I end this long entry.... BROWS Gel Set products. Yay or Nay?

I have tried MAC brow set, Benefit, and also Sephora brand.  By 'tried' I mean I tried them on at the counters only.  I like how I can brush my hairs upwards, like those runaway models with the bushy 'upward' brow hairs.  And now that my brows are quite hairy (overdue for a trim),  I think the 'upward' brows is kind of nice, and besides I normally use the lightest shade for my brows.  But the MAC and Sephora ones seem really shimmery --- weird.  And the Benefit one is nice, it isn't shimmery but at $40....I don't think I will splurge on that.  Any recommendations?

Here is a silly picture of me with the brushed up brow hairs (I had on a mixture of the Benefit and Sephora brow gel).  I know my own hair is ultra black and they don't match my brows.. but I like my brows very light, defined but 'hairy'.  Yes, I am confused like that, but me likey.

I just realised I have so much time on my hands now, you know what I mean?  I haven't jogged in weeks because I spent all my time at home with my little darling.  So it's about time I start getting back to my old regular routine, and writing here is also a form of relief for me.

Thanks for reading and all your well wishes!

The Givenchy Mascara's brush is cool! My first time seeing a mascara brush like that. Would like you to do a review on it, Sophialove. Smiling

Definitely will review that. I think Loreal has a similar one.... but it seems to be in UK only -- If I am not wrong.

I heard good and bad about this mascara.. but I'm not going to spend my almost $50 on it! Cos I prefer waterproof mascara! Haahhahhaa

Yeah... I also saw some one talks about the loreal version mascara on Youtube.. I think the wand is longer or so.

On the brow gels: I only use the brow gels/mascaras cos i super suck at drawing my brows and I have relative thick brows anyways - with the brow mascara, i just need to brush thru to neaten up and go. No need for touch ups, no uneven shapes, doesn't come off, etc. In MAC Brow Set, i use MINK (its LE, came out with Emmanuel Ungaro/BBR and soon to be re-released) - its a very dark non-shimmery brown (otherwise, i look like a clown; i'm NC43-45!). I've also used Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper in Mahogany (but i think they have lighter colours - all are non-shimmery from what i remember). Hope this helps.

oh by the way, the MAC one seems to last forever - i bought mine at the Emmanuel Ungaro release and still using; i make sure i clean the wand often but its not dry at the least yet.

Its the All Races, All Ages, All Sexes Collection - likely Jan 2010. I will need to get a back-up of mink then too =)

i have not tried any brow gel set products but i have always been intrigued by it. My brows are quite sparse and I have to fill them in, not sure if the brow gel will work if there are lil brow hair?

you mean its under the Sephora brand? i've never seen it! Its like a Mascara? if its cheaper than MAC (which is around $20 odd), then this will be good alternative and i don't have to run around like a psycho looking for a backup!
