Halloween Haul: MUFE Special Effects products (Pic Heavy)

By retail_therapy · October 27, 2009 · 17 Comments · 172 Views

Hi hi! Before I start, you will notice that all the pictures in this entry have been watermarked, courtesy of my little sister who is a whizz at PS.   I seriously should learn, I know some tricks but always forget all about them when I don't use PS on a regular basis.

So bro and I went to Stamford House today to check out some special effects makeup.  I wanted to buy the wax thingy to create slashes and skin but they were OOS (out of stock).. in fact many items which I wanted were OOS.  These are the 2 items which I bought eventually.   A white cream stick face paint, and a bottle of liquid blood.  I wanted the thick blood but OOS... will show you a DIY version tomorrow.  :)

This entry is also a little 'teaser' preview to what will be posted here in the later part of the week, so keep a lookout for updates!

There are countless tutorials on YT showing you how to create all sorts of makeup.... my faves are Petrilude, Kandee Johnson, Pixiwoo...

So, I just want to try out some wacky stuff.  Bear in mind I am no professional like them, or our lovely Sarah here, I am just playing around with whatever I already have, and also just test out a few tips and tricks here.  Such as 'erasing' eyebrows etc.  Luckily my siblings were kind of fascinated with the whole thing and be my guinea pigs.  Here is what we came up with:

I just used lash adhesive/ latex to create the peeling skin, and some clear gloss and the blood thingy.  I also dabbed assorted eyeshadow colors to add some texture.  All the eyeshadows/ power stuff are from the various 78 palette, 28 neutral palette etc etc etc.

And my sister is like some kind of punked out warped doll or geisha face.  I am quite bad at the 'cracks' on the head, but I lurve how I can apply my Illasmasqua Panic blusher and MAC Azalea blusher in all their full glory.

And some pictures of them goofing about.

Yup, I know the faces and neck, ears etc etc don't match....I am just trying out the face paint!  :)  Reason why I didn't want to buy the kits they sell at halloween shops etc cos I am quite dubious of their staying power and quality.  So.... got to invest in MUFE.  Haha.  Wanted to check out Kroylan at Cosmoprof.. but kind of out of the way... anyway.

That's all, and hope you enjoyed this entry.

If you just started reading  my blog, you might also be interested in an earlier entry I wrote about being BEATEN AND BRUISED.

linn - thanks!! I was kind of inspired by one of Petrilude's tutorial on bruises... realised it is impossible to recreate everything, so I had to 'freestyle' along the way, and do whatever fits. haha.

BUt yah.. Sometimes it's hard to recreate certain things but when we "freestyle" that's when we tend to find out that Hey we are creative too u know.... heheeh!!

Lovely work Sophia! and agreed with Sara; the scar on your bro's head looks v real - the yellowish thing (e/s i'm guessing) surrounding the 'wound' looks like dried pus (eww, i know, but it does!!!). Kudos to them for being so sporting!

Thanks Sarah... I just kind of last min wanted to get started on doing all these, as usual... so wasn't surprised that most of the supplies have run out. If you know where I can get my hands on some of the wax thingy to create the skin, tell me! Sticking out tongue

Cocomotion - yea, I think Petrilude recreated quite a few of the MAC face charts in his tutorials, like the zipper, etc.... amazing stuff. Thanks for the link!

I actually had to fast scroll past the bloody gashes cause i hate gory stuff like that (i wasn't allowed to watch scary stuff as a kid cause i would have nightmares). Which basically means you did a freaking good job cause it was realistic! And the geisha is weirdly pretty in a Tim Burton esque way.

fiend - ow, thanks! Haha. I am thinking the Corpse Bride look would be quite cool, but I need to practise drawing more realistic lines and cracks Smiling
